Coming from the team that brought you All Your Friends Are Dead and Caw is a new dark comedy horror musical: Open House!

A young mother, along with her teenage daughter, live a vagabond life, bouncing from town to town, squatting in homes that they have tricked realtors into showing them during the day, and then breaking into them later at night, so they have somewhere to sleep.

This grift seems to be working well until the two come across an overzealous realty couple, who show the duo a house, but refuse to let them leave.

Open House, Ricky Glore
“This house is empty… besides the bodies in the basement.”

Pulling from his own personal story of meeting his wife through theater, filmmaker Ricky Glore explores the insanity that is the housing market. On one side, a husband will do anything to make his wife happy, even if it means killing through the guise of real estate. On the other, a mother-daughter duo fakes interest in buying a house just to have a safe place to stay. Open House is a story that goes surprisingly deep to tap those heartstrings, then strums them to the beat of The Music Man until they bleed.

Open House is what you get when you mix The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Motel Hell, and Waiting for Guffman: a terrifying situation that’s made even more terrifying by the characters’ deranged insistence on performance via hilariously-done musical theater.

There will be blood and gore for those horror “dude-bros” done by make-up/effects artist Trevor Thompson. The music comes from the mind of talented composer David Kornfeld. And of course, there is a whole team of actors and production staff who are working diligently to make Open House the killer showing it is meant to be. Viewers can look forward to fantastic effects, gut-punch laughs, and tunes that will keep them energized and ready for the murderous antics that await them. There’s even a cinematic universe-style reference to All Your Friends Are Dead.

It’s a show — it’s a performance! They wear costumes, they wear too much make-up. Their bravado is a little too much. There is the horror of the awkwardness of personal interaction where people can be glassy-eyed and sort of robotic.

Ricky Glore on how realty and murder form the perfect combination for a musical horror film
