From Grimmcore Studios comes the legend of a Mayan vampire, a god of death: Camazotz. Twin brothers on a trip through Mexico are attacked by this ancient being with little hope for their survival. This gothic work is action packed and heavy on horror. One thing is certain, The Return of Camazotz is prime and ready to take over the comic book world!
I don’t read many comics. I also don’t hear a lot about ancient Mayan death gods. The Return of Camazotz makes me want more. Immediately, this comic has my mind in a chokehold wanting to know every single detail about these two brothers and the trouble they’re about to get into. Somehow with little background information, I was hooked — and it probably had something to do with the illustration. Illustrator Azrael Aguiar knows how to make a simple picture exude terror with just 3 colors; literally the second page is black, blue, and red… and it is ghastly.
But you can’t just have a comic with pictures, right? That’s where writer/creator Rafael Flores, Jr. comes in, feeding us the brothers’ story with just enough detail to keep us hooked and reading. I am not kidding when I say I read through this like lightning! And that’s not a bad thing — in fact, it’s awesome! I now get to re-read, go back and analyze the pictures and story, and build up anticipation for the next chapter. Grimmcore Studios made damn sure that The Return of Camazotz kept readers engaged.
And how could I not be with the possibility of a giant Bat god?! Similar to werewolf legend, it seems that Camazotz can outright kill you, or just maim you — a worse option considering you now will become Camazotz. Even in present day, the Mayan followers of this death spirit are ready to initiate the ultimate revival. It’s crazy how much a cliffhanger can uproot your entire day… I need to see what happens next!
What can I say about The Return of Camazotz? There’s plot. There’s history. There’s blood. There’s horror. There’s mystery. There’s everything you need in a fast-paced, gory horror comic. I will definitely be tuning in to see this infamous “Return,” and you should too!
