REVIEW — House at the Edge of the Woods (2025)

We’re midway through May and as the weather gets warmer, many people are planning trips to the great outdoors. As horror fans, I think we all know that staying close to a forest is one thing, but as soon as you bring a camera crew outdoors, it’s about to get scary. Terror Films’ House at the Edge of the Woods is a found footage fright that proves the paranormal isn’t just in old decrepit houses — it’s in the nature surrounding us too.

A grieving man moves into the home of his missing father. After experiencing anomalies on his property, he hires a documentary crew to uncover the truth of what’s really happening at The House at the Edge of the Woods.

Jackson, Eddie, Rachel, and Stephanie — part of a supernatural documentary quartet — make their way to a house in a wooded, secluded area. Jeremy, who owns the home, tells the crew about the disappearance of his father in the woods, as well as strange occurrences that have also affected his wife and son. Using investigative equipment and filming everything they see, the crew experiences some terrifying things happening at night. Soon, as various individuals in the home begin to act out of character, the crew decide to leave before something truly awful happens.

I think we can all sympathize with the very human nature of feeling like something is out to get us, lurking just behind the tree line. In House at the Edge of the Woods, this is exactly the problem. Even after warnings from Jeremy, no one can resist the pull of the dark forest. And in typical found footage fashion, they all regret it in the end.

House at the Edge of the Woods has something special in that the monster isn’t your typical ghost or demon. It’s a creature we don’t see too often, lending a unique storyline to the movie that helps explain the horrifying things going on there. While the crew wrestles with solid evidence of the supernatural, their lives become endangered not only by the presence there, but by others in their group… or so they think.

Because House at the Edge of the Woods kept the creature’s identity hidden until the end, it was a fun realization of what was really going on. Once we know what was hiding in the woods, all bets are off with a slurry of guts and gore spraying across everything from bathroom walls to trees and even other people. The kills were awesome and graphic, but the scariest moment was seeing the little blips of the creature — a hand moving just behind a tree.

House at the Edge of the Woods is a great choice for those prepping for outdoor activities this summer. If you really want a scare, set up a screen with your back to the trees, and just wait.
