Best Horror Movie Taglines

three assorted movie posters

It ain’t easy being cheesy… Good thing we like cheese! Whether it’s a funny inside joke or an eerie, ominous quote, these taglines are sure to excite. Check out these awesome picks and let us know your favorites!

You’re gonna get stalked (Sharks of the Corn, 2021)

Give me a cheesy tagline and it automatically makes it the best movie ever. I did actually watch this movie, and if you couldn’t tell by the title, it definitely is a movie. The fun part of taglines is when you can make them pun-y. Stalked can mean two things here, and uh… well… I don’t really need to explain the joke, do I?

To avoid fainting, keep repeating ‘It’s only a movie…it’s only a movie…’ (The Last House on the Left, 1972)

I have seen this snippet played in many a horror movie compilation. 1972’s Last House on the Left certainly did leave theaters full of viscerally disgusted and scared patrons; it’s tagline, at least for the early 70s audience, is well within its right to be a cautionary one. While wordplay and jokes are a sure way to get me to watch something, ominous ones work just as well.

In space, no one can eat ice cream (Killer Klowns from Outer Space, 1988)

Big if true! A play on 1979’s Alien tagline, Killer Klowns takes that spooky wording and puts a big red nose on it. It’s amusing with a serious twist and dark yet lighthearted. Perfect for this type of movie.

By Pick, by axe, by sword, bye bye! (The Mutilator, 1984)

Ok alliteration! I like rhymes and sing-songy writing, so this fits right up that alley. It’s catchy and fun, just like the movie. Plus, it gives reference to some of the weapons we may see in the movie What slasher fan wouldn’t like that?

Man is the warmest place to hide (The Thing, 1982)

Yeah, I don’t like this one (in a good way). It’s creepy. Who would want something as nasty as a slimy alien hiding in their body? It takes true wordsmithing to be gross, but not too gross.

Sometimes dead is better. (Pet Sematary, 1989)

Taking a line from The Ring: no offense, ma’am, but what the hell does that mean? So this is not something I want to hear whether my kids are dead or alive. This tagline is a really effective way to bring in viewers who wish to know more. Under what circumstances is dead better? Welp, come watch and find out!

Run (Alien: Covenant, 2017)

GOT DAMN, what a badass line! I’m a Prometheus fan, but this tagline sure did make me go out and see Covenant! Single words that evoke such emotion and fear are top tier taglines. And the fact that this is an Alien movie makes perfect sense.

A blast for you and a blasphemy (Nun of That, 2008)

I happened to come across this movie poster (where I saw the tagline) while scrolling on the ‘gram, and now I’m making it my life’s mission to watch it. This has to be the greatest tagline I have ever read. The movie could be complete garbage — but that tagline though! This one was so good, I called up an old movie friend and told him about it. It’s that good!
