Rendezvous, IMDB

Rendezvous is a noir-inspired film, and though not horror, is made by horror legends. The Decker and Nicklin duo (founders of production company Decklin Films) have graced both screens and magazines in the horrorverse. Will Barratt (Frozen, Hatchet series), John Fitzpatrick (“The Boys”, “Supernatural”), and Joseph Bishara (The Conjuring, Insidious film franchises) added their expertise in cinemoptography, editing, and music composition, with Richard Trejo, Ryan Valdez, and Joe Stockton rounding out the crew. A chance to stretch their filmmaking legs during the SAG-AFTRA strike, this team of horror greats put together a low-budget flick that takes us on the ride of our lives.

Rendezvous is what happens when horror nerds are forced to take a break from the big screen, granting them time to “play.” Using Decker’s own modified 2016 Ford Focus ST, Nicklin speeds past cops, cruises through tunnels, and even has a mid-race outfit change to the sounds of Perturbator, Skeler, and Tokyo Tears. While many people associate film noir with black-and-white Humphrey Bogart and Robert Mitchum movies, Rendezvous adds a modern, eternally cool flare that you can’t look away from.

Besides pretty girls, fast cars, and a life of crime, Rendezvous once again proves how masters of horror not only lend their talents to make other genres more exiting, but show how ingenuity and creativity can make a solid thrill. Case in point: Rendezvous was shot for just $4,000 on the streets of LA — with no permits. Decker’s film feels real because it is real. Who all besides horror filmmakers would take those risks? Rendezvous may not be a horror film, but it sure does have the minds behind one.

Gritty, energy-laden, adrenaline pumping — Rendezvous is a noir film I can get behind. Los Angeles to Mexico in six minutes? More like 0-60 in 2.0.
